The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) concept originated in the late 1960’s in Los Angeles as a means to effectively respond to specific incidents. Techniques learned from expert military groups such as the German GSG-9, French GIGN and the legendary British 22nd SAS were incorporated into SWAT teams to develop hostage rescue capability. Today’s SWAT Teams stand ready to face a multitude of challenges and situations.
